San Miguel Castle
Castillo de San Miguel is located in Almuñécar, in the province of Granada, Spain.
It is a magnificent castle where you can watch the most beautiful views. The main materials used in this wall are stone and compressed soil.
Originally from B.C. It was a castle built by the Phoenicians in the 7th century. The original walls date back to B.C. It belongs to the 1st century. However, Muslims have left their mark on the castle mostly since the 11th century. It was also used as a resting place by the Nasrid dynasty until the reconquest by Catholic rulers in the 13th century. Towards the end of the reign of Catholic King Ferdinand, a moat was dug around the castle, a drawbridge was built and an impressive front entrance with four towers was constructed. During the Spanish War of Independence (1805-1812) against the French occupation in the 19th century, it was heavily damaged and removed by the invaders. Additionally, British warships bombarded the castle from the sea, destroying one of its towers. Later, the castle was restored again for tourism.
